The International Gas Union (IGU) are responsible for the personal data collected, used and shared in relation to the event 21st International Conference & Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG2026)

The IGU works with QatarEnergy to deliver LNG2026. Both IGU and QatarEnergy are committed to protecting and respecting your personal information under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Data Protection Laws.

1. Scope

Privacy Policy applies

1.1    to personal data in IGU’s possession or under IGU’s control in relation to this event. 
1.2    This includes personal data in the possession of organisations which IGU has engaged to collect, use, disclose or process your personal data for our event purposes.
1.3    to all services on the LNG2026 website, including page browsing and website registration and login services provided to you on the official website and App as well as the technical services provided to you through the platform and App.

Privacy Policy does not apply

1.4   to the services provided to you by other third parties through the LNG2026 website and App (collectively referred to as “‘Third-Party Services”). 
1.5   You should understand the product functions and data protection policies of the third-party service before choosing to use the third-party service.

2.4 Tailored content, recommendations, and advertisements

We use cookies and other tracking technologies to enable us to offer certain time-saving features to you, such as one-time log in, and pre-populating name and address fields. 

We may combine your visitor session information or other information collected through tracking technologies with personal data in order to understand and measure your online experiences and to determine what products, promotions and services are likely to be of interest to you.

We also use these technical methods in HTML e-mails that we send to you for a number of purposes, including: (i) to determine whether you have opened or forwarded those e-mails and/or clicked on links in those e-mails, (ii) to customise the display of banner advertisements and other messages after you have closed an e-mail, and (iii) to determine whether you have made an enquiry in response to a particular e-mail.

2.5 Additional Information

We may need to ask for Special Category Personal Data relating health and/or disability.

  • We will use this to make reasonable adjustments or to take other measures to facilitate the safe operation of the event.
  • For example, if you have any special dietary requirements.

We may run cultural or technical tours related to the event (via the event host organisation).

  • If you have indicated that you are interested, we will share information with them for this purpose.

2.6 The App

  • You can receive our message push notifications for reminders, meeting etc. more promptly. If you don’t enable this permission, you won’t be able to get the latest data.
  • You need to allow the Internet to use our products and services. If you don’t enable this permission, you won’t be able to get the latest data.
  • You can enable camera permissions to take real-time photos and upload pictures. If you do not enable this permission, you will not be able to use the picture- related functions and visit reservations, but it will not affect your use of other services.
  • You can use or save pictures or files by enabling the storage permission. If you do not enable this permission, you will not be able to use the functions related to memory card reading, but it will not affect your use of other services.

2.7 Rationale for processing your personal data

Member organisations and their staff

The processing is necessary to fulfil, and is justified by, the following legitimate interests of the IGU, the Member organisation and the staff members of the Member organisation:

  • to facilitate the provision of membership benefits (attendance at events) to the Member organisation and the staff wishing to attend.
  • to deliver tailored content, recommendations, and advertisements using data generated by cookies.

Non-members

The processing is necessary to fulfil, and is justified by, the following legitimate interests of the IGU and the person wishing to attend the event:

  • to facilitate their attendance at the event.
  • to enable the IGU to keep the individual informed about IGU Membership and other IGU events and activities that the IGU believes they will have a professional interest in (the individual can opt-out at any time). IGU may use third parties to promote its events.
  • to deliver tailored content, recommendations, and advertisements using data generated by cookies.

3. How we collect your information

3.1 We primarily collect personal information from you directly through the following means:
  • Correspondence you send to us via email or in writing;
  • Information you provide when contacting us by telephone or in person;
  • Details you provide when registering an account on our website or App, or through hotel bookings, or related to events, functions, exhibitions, promotions, or other activities.

3.2 We may obtain personal information from other third-party sources (such as your employer) to update or supplement the personal information you provide or that is collected through Cookies.

3.3 Cookies

The event website uses a variety of technical methods for tracking purposes, including cookies.A cookie is a small text file written to a user's hard drive that contains the 'User ID'.Cookies record those areas of the website that have been visited by the computer in question, and for how long.

Cookies and other technical methods may involve the transmission of information either directly to us or to a third party authorised by us to collect information on our behalf.The information from the use of such technical methods may be collected in a form that is personally identifiable.

4. Sharing your personal information

4.1  Where necessary, we will share your personal information with our affiliated companies and third parties. If we do this, these organisations will be “Data Processors” acting on behalf of the IGU.

4.2 It will be necessary to share your information with our affiliated companies and third parties for the IGU to deliver on the core functions of this event and our products and/or services (for example, where we need to share your data to promote new events to you) and/or to provide services to you (such as ensuring the smooth running of the event, or completion of other services to you). 

4.3 We will only share when necessary and for the purposes outlined in this privacy policy and will only share the personal information necessary to fulfil the specific activities. Our partners are not authorized to use the shared personal information for any other purpose.

4.4 Other than this, we will only share your personal information in the following limited circumstances:

  • With your explicit consent or authorisation in advance.
  • When necessary in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, the requirements of legal procedures, or mandatory administrative or judicial requirements.
  • To the extent permitted by laws and regulations, it is necessary in order to protect the interests, property or safety of us, our affiliates or partners, you or other website or App users or the public from damage.
  • To deal with your disputes or controversies with others at your request.
  • Comply with any relevant agreements signed with you (including the electronic agreements signed online and the corresponding platform rules) or other legal documents.
  • Use based on the public interest in accordance with laws and regulations.

4.5 Note: In the event of a merger, acquisition, asset transfer or similar transaction we will require the successive company or organization holding your personal information to continue to be bound by this Privacy Policy or to otherwise ensure continued compliance with Data Protection Laws. 

5. Protecting your personal information

5.1 We use industry-standard encryption, firewalls, and secure server technologies to protect stored data. Access to personal data is limited to authorized personnel and third parties bound by confidentiality obligations. We attach great importance to the security of personal information and take all reasonable and feasible measures to protect your personal information. 

5.2 If you believe that your personal information has been leaked, especially your account and password, please contact us immediately so that we can take corresponding measures.

5.3 Your personal information will be stored within Qatar. It will be collated there for the purposes of the event but then deleted. The data will be passed back to the IGU and stored by the IGU in the UK.

6. Managing your personal information

6.1 Delivering this event requires personal information; we therefore attach great importance to any concerns you might have about your personal information. We do our best to protect your rights whilst using your information to deliver the event, correspondence and subsequent marketing to you. 

6.2 You may exercise your use your rights at any time, for example withdrawing consent; requesting that we delete data we no longer need or objecting to our reliance on legitimate interests to process your data. Please contact us (see section 8) to discuss what right you wish to use. 


6.3 Should you withdraw your consent and/or object, we are unlikely to be able to continue to provide you with services. Please note that withdrawing consent 
  • will not affect the processing of personal information previously carried out on the based of that consent, and
  • does not affect our right to continue to collect, use and disclose personal information where it is permitted or required under applicable laws.

7. Changes to our handling of your personal information

7.1 This Privacy Policy may get updated. 

7.2 Minor updates: we will issue the updated version on the event website and remind you of the update through the website announcement or other appropriate means before it takes effect.

7.3 Major changes: we will provide more prominent notices. We will explain the specific changes through methods including (but not limited to) email, text message, or reminders on the browsing page. 

7.4 Major changes include, but are not limited to significant:
  • alterations to our service model, such as the purposes of processing personal information, types of processed personal information, or methods of personal information usage;
  • changes in the primary parties with whom personal information is shared, transferred, or publicly disclosed;
  • modifications to your rights and how they are exercised concerning the processing of personal information; and/or
  • changes in the team responsible for handling personal information security, contact methods, and complaint channels.
