Wael Sawan was appointed CEO of Shell plc in January 2023. During his Shell career, spanning more than 25 years, he has worked in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas, and has held roles across all of Shell's businesses.

Prior to being appointed CEO at the start of 2023, Wael joined the Executive Committee in 2019 as Upstream Director and in 2021, he became Shell's Director of Integrated Gas, and Renewables and Energy Solutions.

Wael holds an MEng from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
