Mohammed Al-Mehaid
A seasoned maritime expert with more than 20 years of leadership experience across the oil, gas, and shipping sectors. A former Master Mariner, he has established himself as a respected authority in LNG port management, marine operations, and international maritime governance.
As Port Manager of Ras Laffan Port, the world’s largest LNG export facility, he oversees all marine operations supporting Qatar’s strategic role as a global energy supplier. He is responsible for the safe and efficient handling of LNG and petroleum exports, directing critical infrastructure operations, and coordinating with major international oil and gas companies to ensure uninterrupted global energy flows. His leadership extends to expansion projects and capability-building initiatives that enhance the port’s resilience and international standing.
Previously, he served as Harbour Master at MIC & Ras Laffan Ports, where he spearheaded vessel traffic management, marine safety compliance, and environmental protection frameworks. Earlier in his career, as a Marine Pilot, he navigated a wide range of complex vessels, including LNG carriers, crude oil tankers, and offshore terminal operations.
Beyond operational leadership, Capt. Mohammed Al-Mehaid is recognized as a strategic voice in advancing maritime safety, regulatory compliance, and industry collaboration. He has played a central role in implementing international standards, mentoring diverse teams, and fostering strong partnerships with global shipping and energy stakeholders.
He holds an MBA in Marine Transportation and Operational Logistics from the University of Southampton, a BSc in Marine Transportation from California State University, and the Master Mariner (F.G.) License. He is also an alumnus of the Qatar Leadership Centre’s Executive Leadership Program, which has equipped him with advanced competencies in executive decision-making and governance.
