Meg O'Neill
Meg O’Neill was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Woodside Energy in 2021.
Within a year Meg transformed Woodside into the largest energy company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange through a merger with BHP’s oil and gas portfolio.
Since that time, Meg has strategically positioned Woodside to become a leading global player in the LNG sector through the acquisition and approval of the three-train, 16.5 million tonne per annum (Mtpa) Louisiana LNG project in the United States.
Meg is steadfast in her commitment to ensuring Woodside thrives through the energy transition by developing a low-cost, lower-carbon, profitable, resilient and diversified portfolio.
In line with this objective, in 2024, Woodside acquired the Beaumont New Ammonia project. Located in Beaumont Texas, this project establishes Woodside as an early mover in the growing lower-carbon ammonia market.
Meg has 30 years of experience in the global oil and gas industry. Prior to joining Woodside as Chief Operations Officer in 2018, Meg worked for ExxonMobil in a variety of technical, operational and leadership roles based in Houston, Indonesia, Canada and Norway.
She is Chair of the Australian oil and gas industry peak body, Australian Energy Producers (AEP), and serves on the boards of the American Petroleum Institute (API), the Business Council of Australia (BCA), and West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO).
Meg is originally from Boulder, Colorado, and is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with degrees in Ocean Engineering and Chemical Engineering.
