Akshay Kumar Singh
Akshay Kumar Singh, is a distinguished Mechanical Engineer with over 40 years of extensive experience across design, engineering, planning, execution and O&M of complex pipeline systems and process plants. A graduate in Mechanical Engineering from MIT Muzaffarpur (Batch 1979), Singh later earned an M.Tech in Turbo Machinery from South Gujarat University (1990). Throughout his illustrious career of over four decades, Singh has held several leadership roles. He has worked in India’s Oil & Gas sector, contributing to the design & engineering, planning, execution and operation of several projects of national importance.
Today, he is working as MD & CEO of Petronet LNG Limited (PLL), which handles nearly 34% of India’s Natural Gas needs and about two-thirds of total country’s LNG imports. Under his leadership, Petronet is pursuing approx. $4 billion expansion projects, including PLL’s first east coast LNG terminal and a ~$2.4 billion petrochemical project at Dahej, for which the foundation stone was laid by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India in 2024. This petrochemical plant will be the first in India to use cold energy integration technology from adjoining existing 17.5 MMTPA LNG terminal and is expected to meet 10% of India’s incremental demand of polypropylene in 2030.
Earlier, he has worked as Director – Pipelines at Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. Under his leadership, various projects worth approx. 6 billion $ consisting of city gas distribution (CGD) projects, laying of approx. 9000 km length of cross country hydrocarbon pipelines for transportation of multiproduct, LPG, Crude Oil and Natural Gas including commissioning of India’s first transnational multiproduct hydrocarbon pipeline to Nepal, (completed eight months ahead of schedule) were taken up on fast track execution mode, which was appreciated by Hon’ble Prime Ministers of both the countries. Before that, he has spent nearly three decades with GAIL (India) Limited handling multiple responsibilities including project planning & execution, R&D, HSE and risk management.
